April Showers Bring May Flowers

April showers bring May flowers, but they can bring so much more. Rain is so often associated with sad moments or sad feelings, especially in the movies. But in real life it would be really weird if every time something sad or depressing happened it started to rain.
But rain does cause different people to react differently.
We often see people running for cover indoors when it starts to rain.

For others rain is something to enjoy outdoors.
I remember summer rains as a kid where we would put on our bathing suits and go out and take rain showers. I remember washing cars in the rain…we didn't need a hose!

It was magical. We got to jump in puddles, kick up fans of water, and wipe the dripping rain from our eyes.

But there are some great mental benefits, besides magical benefits,
that come from walking in the rain.
1. Rain relieves your inner burdens. Charlie Chaplin once said that no one can see you crying in the rain. Walking in the rain when you are down creates a connection between you and nature that can stimulate and invigorate. And if it is a wet gloomy walk, the hot shower or bath afterwards and cup of something hot with a sweet treat, are all very comforting and will bring a smile to your face.
2. Conflict is impossible to avoid. We all experience conflict. Going for a walk in the rain can cool things down, balance emotions, and bring a fresh perspective to the situation.

3. Rain brings a new perspective, a new lens, to everything you see, to your reality. You see gray clouds, reflections of buildings in the puddles, steam evaporating from the sidewalks, and the closed petals of flowers. There is something unique about a rainy day which may help us put a more positive perspective on our challenges.

4. Rain teaches us acceptance. Rain is beyond our control, like many of the absurdities in our everyday lives. It teaches us to accept things as they are and just go on. Life is still waiting to be lived, in spite of the rain.
5. The air is fresher and cleaner when and after it rains because the rain drops fall through the atmosphere and absorb tens to hundreds of aerosol particles on their journey to the ground.

6. Petrichor is the smell of rain. The pleasant scent of rain can soothe your mind and body.
7. Exercising in the rain will enable you to exercise longer because it will help keep you from overheating.

8. There are less people out in the rain, so your walk can be longer and quieter and help clear the stress from your mind.

But if walking in the rain is not your thing, join the many that just
like the chance to hunker down indoors.

A rainy day can offer you the opportunity to reflect on yourself. You can choose to stay inside and enjoy some 'me' time – reading, watching an old movie, listening to music, or writing a letter – while you listen to the rain.
Just listening to rain can relieve anxiety and depression as it calms the mind. Many meditation videos use the sound of rain because the sound of rain is similar to white noise which can promote deep relaxation.
So, when you see that next April Shower consider
all the many benefits that you can embrace and remember that ……
